Default Running in arena

I recently started playing around with my monk in the arenas, and it is a miserable experience. Every time I run away from the couple of warriors that would like to rage in my face, I'm called a noob runner, a cheater and worse. Keep in mind, this is different from bringing running skills and sprinting around the arena like a nincompoop. I'm actively healing my team and myself, I just choose not to be beat over the head by a hammer.

Did I miss a memo here? It seems I'm universally hated in the arenas because of this. In higher level PVP are the squishies expected to sit still and wait patiently while an angry warrior mauls them? To the people complaining, would you like it if the monks in your PVE party simply ran to the front of every fight and stood still so the monsters could have a fair chance to hit them? Seriously, there is nothing wrong with dodging blows simply by moving around, it's a valid damage reduction tactic so get off my back already.

*END OF RANT*

This is called kiting, and if you're a monk and aren't an idiot you will most likely need to do this. If warriors complain who cares, they're idiots and next time maybe they'll bring bull's and/or a speed buff.

It's just people frustrated that they don't know how to catch you. Why should you stand there while they beat you to a bloody pulp? As long as you're doing your job, who cares?

Take anything that happens in random arenas with a grain of salt.
The quality of players in the arenas is not so great.

I wouldn't worry about it, the idiots in question are probably frustrated at the thought of having to bring a sprint instead of ZOMGLEET Doylak Signet.

The ability to kite well while still carrying out your duties is one of the prerequisites for any skilled player of any caster class, this goes double for mesmers and monks. I wouldn't worry about what a few scrubs in the random arenas say.

I guess they don't watch observer mode that much do they or they would know better.I would just ignore them or turn gen chat off and keep team on.

Honestly kiting is cool with me as i'm a warrior. I don't expect spellcasters to stand still and just let me take them down. My problem is in the early arenas (Ascalon, Yaks) you get Mo/R that bring spellbreaker, dodge, stormchaser, and lightning reflexes. They are simply built to run and thats all they do.

My reply to the "ZOMG WHY R U RUNNIN, NOOB??!!11!" is always

"OMG Why are you chasing? noob chaser ..."

I think that resets their brain for a minute or two.

I too fought a group last night that was all R primaries that storm chaser/dodge/escaped their way around the arena like it was a pinball machine. My teammate would crippling shot, our mes would crippling anguish, and I just spiked 'em down. It still took us a while, and was very annoying.

Oh, then after that we got beat by [Evil] in TA and we had a ragequitter ... GG there, get mad and quit after being beaten by a TOP 10 GUILD.

I'll rage at a mesmer using crippling anguish and conjure phantasm on me while playing a warrior while they run away and spam the skills. I'll then quit because it's useless even trying to get close.

Mesmers always have the lovely knowledge that when the opposing team starts laying into them or swearing their head off at them, they're doing their job properly.

Running is one of the many things that is wrong with the game.

To clarify: only an idiot would expect a spellcaster to merely stand still while getting beat, but the fact that the only real option for a spellcaster is to job around like a doofus, unless they're one of the morons who just sits there like a rock casting prot and regen spells on themself like it's going out of fashion, is a design flaw.

In other words: only an idiot would expect a spellcaster to stand still and get bludgeoned, but only an idiot would confuse pressing the 'r' key and moving the mouse with some sort of battle tactic. It would be nice if there were something better. No, I don't personally have any solutions to suggest.

And, of course, bear in mind that some of these people may also be giving you spillover frustration. RA especially is full of morons who will just run around in circles for no other reason than to drag things out and annoy people.

All that said, if you're a monk and choose to try and run from my warrior, be my guest. If I miss crippling you or knocking you down, I'll just corral you out of range of your teammates, hit you with some nasty degens (barbed bleeding + Phantom Pain + Conjure Phantasm FTW) so you have to focus on yourself, then go whoop the ass of one of your abandoned teammates who is now monkless (and, if he's a warrior, probably panicking and using that oh-so-wonderful-to-see Healing Signet).

to the OP,
You seem to have managed to hit alot of the minority complainers. Most of the people in RA are quite nice. If people complain that you are running, just ignore them. They are the noob for not bringing a counter to the most used tactic in 4v4.

You'd be a 'zomgwtf n00b' if you stood there and got hacked and slashed around by a warrior. There' no shame in kiting and if warriors choose not to bring knockdowns or running skills that's their problem. Take NOTHING to heart - otherwise you'd get yourself on a real downer. You're the stronger person for going in to those arenas as a monk - i'm sure its not hard to cast mending, use sever arterty and gash.... lather, rinse, repeat.

When you would say "noob runner" in RA, I would think of when your team pwns 3 out of the 4 people, and you're left with one doofus running around wasting both teams time just delaying the inevitable. If they are calling you "noob runner" in any other circumstance then they're just idiots for either stopping or hitting R and running in a straight line while they type out messages to you. If you can, encourage them to keep typing so they don't spend as much time trying to cut you off and pound you.

sometimes on my monk, i purposefully stand there and just heal myself because i see that the other team get tunnel vision and start to focus solely on me, leaving them unhindered to start raping them =)

but other times i've been called a noob runner by my own team because apparently me running away from being beaten to a pulp makes it harder for the warrior to come running all the way back to me to beat them up in return x.x

Ya, when I'm playing a prot monk or a boon prot sometimes I really don't bother running around that much because, basically, they can't touch this.
